Ukrainian drones will be produced in Norway

At a time of particular uncertainty regarding arms deliveries from the United States, Ukraine is seeking alternative ways to secure support. During his visit to Oslo, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an agreement with the Norwegian Prime Minister on deepened cooperation.

The agreement was announced on Tuesday, April 14. Due to the US war in Iran, demand has increased for missiles used in the American Patriot air defence systems—a system widely employed by Ukraine to defend against Russian air attacks.

The agreement concerns a declaration to strengthen cooperation in the fields of defence and security. The Norwegian side stated that the document covers the development of new technologies, an increase in arms production, and closer collaboration between the defence industries of both countries. As a result of the agreement, production of Ukrainian drones will be launched on Norwegian territory. Cooperation is also planned to boost the production of air defence systems and ammunition.

“Technology is developing very rapidly in Ukraine, and Ukrainians are teaching us a great deal about modern warfare,” said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Ukrainian experience is already being applied in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region. He added that Ukraine is eager to share this know-how with its European partners.

Final technical work is underway on six F-16 fighter jets transferred to Ukraine. Once completed, they will become part of the Ukrainian Air Force. Ukrainian military instructors, meanwhile, will travel to Norway. Their mission will be to train the Norwegian army and share the experience gained from the war with Russia.
