Gen. Hodges: We must regain the culture of combat readiness

In the latest episode of the „Skaner Defence24” program, Dr. Jacek Raubo’s guest was Lt. Gen. (R) Ben Hodges, former commander of the U.S. Army Europe. Due to the still tense situation in Europe, the conversation concerned primarily several issues relating to the war in Ukraine and its impact on international reality.

There were also questions relating to General Hodges« conclusions from the recent Munich Security Conference and many global topics that today translate into the above-mentioned armed conflict in Ukraine. At the same time, during the discussion, it was considered what a threat Russia is today. Trying to paint a picture of the threat posed by the Kremlin’s actions not only against the sovereignty of Ukraine but much more broadly if we think about the architecture of European or even global security.

Gen. Hodges also presented his opinions on the current image of NATO and showed how the defense alliance is coping with learning the brutal lessons from the great war at the gates of NATO’s eastern flank. At the same time, critical assessments of the transatlantic space are made, subject to various turbulences in politics and defense. The general also presented his observations regarding the specifics of conducting military operations in Ukraine over the last two years of a full-scale conflict. General Hodges referred to technological changes on the battlefield but also described how technology translates into the strategic image of Ukraine-Russian warfare. Finally, General Hodges presented his assessment of the development of the situation concerning the war in Ukraine.
