"We need more alignment between our countries”
The President of Croatia spoke about the Three Seas Initiative, which was established in 2015 by a decision of then-President of Poland Andrzej Duda and President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović. It is currently suggested that the initiative is underfunded. Funding is being sought within the European Union, from international financial institutions, and from private investors. Coordination of the initiative with the European Union and its projects remains an important issue.
The talks also covered the resumption of conscription in Croatia. In the view of the former president, it is the future of Europe and a way to educate and shape society. Conscription is not seen as preparation for war, but as a tool for deterring a potential enemy. The skills learned during conscription are applicable in everyday life in crisis situations. Citizens know how to behave during a terrorist attack, natural disasters, or other situations that threaten security. They know how to protect themselves and others.
