The decision to procure two AEW&C aircraft was made in mid-2023. Earlier this month, during a meeting involving the head of the Polish Ministry of Defence and his Swedish counterpart, the aircraft was officially transferred. The value of the agreement signed with Sweden was as high as PLN 230 million in total, translating into ca. PLN 115 million per aircraft, including a logistics support and training package.

The first out of two Saab 340 AEW early detection and warning aircraft has arrived in Poland. We are continuing the process of handover of the aircraft, preceding the transfer to the Armed Forces, Bejda wrote in his X post.

Saab 340 AEW&C aircraft are currently operated by Thailand, and previous operators include Greece, and of United Arab Emirates. Similar systems, based on Saab 2000, are operated by Pakistan (7), and Saudi Arabia (2).
