Milrem company has carried out live-fire test of the THeMIS land-based unmanned combat platform, armed with a remote control ADDER module utilizing the CIS 50MG machine gun.

THeMIS (Tracked Hybrid Modular Infantry System) is a modular, unmanned land vehicle capable of carrying payloads ranging from 750 up to 1000 kg. The said robot may be utilized within the framework of numerous operational scenarios, including IED disposal, MEDEVAC and reconnaissance operations, but it is also capable of acting as a fire support platform for the infantry. According to the manufacturer’s specifications, the vehicle weight is 1 tonne, it is 210 cm long, 90-210 cm wide and 98 cm high.

Milrem company, the manufacturer of the platform, has presented a video clip recorded during an exercise in Estonia, involving the THeMIS robot, equipped with the ADDER remote control armament module, fitted with the .50-cal. CIS50MG machine gun. The turret mounted on the vehicle rotates, and makes it possible to act against targets at distances of up to 1800 meters.

THeMIS is a modular tracked platform with a hybrid drive system. It consists out of two identical units including all of the electronic and mechanical equipment required, in order to move the vehicle. Between the aforesaid two modules, a platform has been placed. Not only may the said platform be used to transport the equipment, but it could be utilized for the purpose to carry weapons systems, explosives detectors etc. as well. THeMIS robot may be used for 10 hours of continuous operation, as a remotely controlled, autonomous vehicle, moving at the speed of up to 24 kilometres per hour.

THeMIS prototype already went through the initial tests which were successful, thus the manufacturer claims that the system should be ready for production at the end of this year.
